Paul was born in 1955 in Birmingham, England. He studied art at Moseley Rd Secondary School of Art, Birmingham,1966 -1973, where he completed his Ơ̛ & A̛̛ levels, & Foundation Course. Then Falmouth College of Art,1973 -1976, for BA Hons Fine Art. And the Royal Academy Schools, London,1977-1980, for his Postgraduate Cert̛̛/MA Painting. At the University of Central England in Birmingham,1986-87, he gained a City & Guilds FE & AE Adult Teaching Cert̛̛, before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in History of Art & Design̛̛ ,1987-90. He then enrolled for MPhil/PhD research between 1994-96, but this is presently adjourned.
He has followed a career as a humble "full-time part-time" adult education tutor, and aspiring visual artist. Along the way, he has been lucky enough to win first prize in several prestigious art competitions. These include: the Daily Mail NOT the Turner Prize, 2004̛̛ (which is on a par with The Turner Prize̛̛ but specifically for painting, and selected from 10,000 entries) ; The RBSA Prize Show̛̛ (twice) , FBA Women on canvas̛̛, RBA Rowney Prize̛̛, Spirit of London̛̛ , ̛̛Royal-Over-Seas-League̛̛ , Stowells Trophy Competition for all art colleges̛̛, and the RA Schools Turner Gold Medal̛̛.
Paul was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1979, and a Full Member in 1981. He was elected a full member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in 1997.
As well as having original etchings for sale, he is starting to offer his paintings for sale as giclee prints that will be printed to order.
Since about the age of 16 he has been exhibiting at the RBSA. Then the RA from 1978, and the RBA from 1979. Other London venues include the National Portrait Gallery (BP Portrait Award̛̛), the V & A Museum hung between a Stanley Spencer and a Spencer Gore (Garden Exhibition̛̛ 1979), and as invited artist at Mall Gallery exhibitions The Discerning Eye̛̛ & Making a Mark̛̛ devoted to drawings by leading names of the contemporary art scene (1996). He has been delighted to be exhibited at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery in The Birmingham Open, 2007̛̛, and Art of Birmingham 1940 - 2008̛̛.
Images from his school days onwards are included with other artists in over 30 art books written by a range of authors, and he has been commissioned to write numerous magazine articles about his art work. He has been working on a book about his art work,and invites inquiries from possible publishers. He would also be happy to discuss any other mutually beneficial ideas to further his career.
